Spindrift (Rebel Industries) Daysailer 1, purchased new in 1984, sail #11769
When new, sail controls were minimal and lacked features to enhance safety, facilitate single-handing, and make suitable for racing. The following additions and modifications correct all of those issues:
Halyards led through cuddy roof to blocks at base of mast, then, main and jib led aft to fairleads and cam cleats accessible from cockpit; Spinnaker halyard led further aft to fairlead and cam cleat on underside of starboard thwart to allow captain to raise spinnaker while crew launches from basket under cuddy on port side.
4+:1 Mainsheet tackle led to Harken swivel Hexa-ratchet block w/ cam cleat. (ratchet can be switched off). Mainsheet runs through block at end of boom to terminate at stern bridle. (hardware to convert to stern “traveler” included)
jib sheets led to swivel fairleads w/ Harken cam cleats raised 1” on teak blocks atop cuddy near after edge
Barber haulers (Harken blocks) led to jam cleats on cuddy roof edge.
Compass (removable) mounted atop cuddy.
2:1 jib luff tension, double ended control line led to each side of cuddy at jam cleats.
3:1 Cunningham (mainsail luff tension) with jam cleat accessible from forward crew position.
Spinnaker sheets led through blocks on each stern corner, then forward to block & cam cleat on each side deck at cuddy edge. Spinnaker guy guides forward of shrouds.
Spinnaker / jib pole with downhaul led through cuddy roof to fairlead and Harken cam cleat at aft edge under cuddy roof.
full length hiking straps, adjustable while underway with 2:1 tackle w/ jam cleat
Outhaul, 2:1 tackle adjustable while underway with jam cleat
Boom Vang, 6:1 tackle with Harken cam cleat under boom
Tiller extension, Forespar 25-46” twist lock telescoping (facilitates hiking well outboard and single-handing the boat while well forward in cockpit.)
Shaped rudder foil and streamlined aluminum rudder head with quick release tang.
Accessories/spares:
Highlander galvanized Trailer with hitch jack & new carpeted bunks
Spare trailer tie-down Strap
2 spare wooden rudder foils (I use for recreation to save class legal foil for racing)
Spare Tiller with fixed 34” Forespar tiller extension
2 sets of sails:
Cressy Main, Jib and Spinnaker
Spindrift Main and Jib
2 Danforth style anchors
1 Mushroom mud anchor
2 Paddles
A new Daysailer 1 from Cape Cod Shipbuilding, equipped as closely as possible to our boat, lists for $30,330. today, yet would still lack some refinements.
