2024 GRSA Fall Invitational

Flying Scot Capital District Championship

October 5th – 6th, 2024

The Greater Richmond Sailing Association cordially invites you to the 2024 GRSA Fall Invitational and Flying Scot Capital District Championship to be held at the Greater Richmond Sailing Association on Swift Creek Reservoir located southwest of Richmond, VA in Midlothian, VA.

1.      RULES :        

This regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

2.       ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRIES:

a.      Flying Scots, recognized US Sailing One Design Fleets and Portsmouth Fleet are eligible to enter the regatta. 

b.      Classes with less than five (5) entrants by Tuesday, October 1, 2024, will compete in Open class using a Portsmouth Handicap. Advance registration is available online for eligible boats at https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/28652.  Registration must be completed by Monday, September 30, 2024, to avoid a late fee.  Check in and registration at the regatta site will be available from 1600-2000 on Friday, October 4th and Saturday morning, October 5th from 0900 until 1030.

3.      FEES:

The registration fee prior to Monday, September 30th is $90.00 per boat.

The registration fee on or after Monday, September 30th is $100.00 per boat. 

Registration fees include racing, continental breakfast for both days, make your own sandwich bar for lunch, dinner and live band entertainment on Saturday after racing for skipper and one crew.  Please email Kate Gomes (kate.gomes@cnu.edu or 804-350-2086) with dietary restrictions.

Additional social/dinner tickets are available

a.      Adults:  $15.00

b.      Children 6 to 10:  $7.00

c.       Children under the age of 6:  No Charge

   

4. THE REGATTA:

a.      Five races are scheduled, with three races on Saturday and two races on Sunday.  Time permitting, Race Committee may adjust the schedule and run 6 races.

b.      One race will constitute a regatta.

c.       The scoring system will be the Low Point System in Appendix A of the RRS. boat’s series score shall be the total of her race scores.

d.      RRS Appendix V will be in effect.

e.       Trophies will be awarded based on the number of registered boats.

5.  SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

Sailing Instructions will be available on www.grsa.org, Regatta Network, at on-site registration, and at the skipper’s meeting.  Courses will be windward/leeward with a reaching finish as described in the Sailing Instructions.  

6.      VENUE

a.      The racing area will be just south of the club on Swift Creek Reservoir.

b.      Boats can be launched by one of two ramps.

c.       A lift is available for removing bottom covers, but not for launching.

7.  SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Friday, October 4th:        Gates at GRSA open at 1600 for out-of-town arrivals

   On-site registration from 1600 to 2000

Saturday, October 5th:    Gates open at GRSA at 0800

                                                   0900 Registration opens

                                                   1030 Registration closes

                                                   1030 Skipper’s Meeting

   1200 Warning signal for first race.  Additional races to follow                   

                                                   1700 Social

                                                   1800 Dinner

Sunday, October 6th:      Gates open at GRSA at 0700

   1000 Warning signal for first race

            One or more additional races to follow

    1300 No race will be started after 1300

    1500 Social and presentation of trophies

7.  DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY:

Competitors participate in any race or regatta entirely at their own risk as instructed in RRS, Rule 3, Decision to Race.  The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury, or death sustained in connection with, prior to, during, or after the regatta. By registering, the registrant agrees to abide by the RRS and all other rules that govern this event.
