2021 Flying Scot Capital District Championship

October 2nd – 3rd, 2021

You are cordially invited to the 2021 Flying Scot Capital District Championship to be held at the Greater Richmond Sailing Association on Swift Creek Reservoir located southwest of Richmond, VA in Midlothian, VA.

1.     RULES:    

This regatta will be governed by the rules as defined by the current edition of The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) for 2021-2024, individual Class Rules, and the Racing Instructions of the Greater Richmond Sailing Association.

2.      ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY:

a.     Eligibility and entry will be subject to Flying Scot Class Rules.

b.     Advance registration is available online for eligible boats at        https://www.regattanetwork.com/event/23230.  Registration must be completed by Wednesday, September 29th to avoid a late fee.  Check in and registration at the regatta site will be available from 1600 – 2000 on Friday, October 1st and Saturday morning, October 2nd from 0900 until 1030.

3.     FEES:

The registration fee prior to Wednesday, September 29th is $80.00 per boat. The registration fee on and after Wednesday, September 29th is $95.00 per boat.  Registration fees include racing, continental breakfast for both days, socials after racing, and dinner Saturday evening for skipper and one crew.  Please email Chris Cookson (ccookson.grsa@gmail.com) with dietary restrictions.

Additional social/dinner tickets are available

a.     Adults:  $15.00

b.     Children 6 to 10:  $7.00

c.      Children under the age of 6:  No Charge

GRSA does not have a beer/liquor license; however, please feel free to bring your own adult beverages if you desire.

    

4. THE REGATTA:

4.1  There will be a total of five races.  Three races are planned for Saturday and two races for Sunday. This schedule is subject to change dependent upon weather.

4.2  One race will constitute a regatta.

4.3  The scoring system will be the Low Point System in Appendix A of the RRS.

4.4  Trophies will be awarded for First – Third places.

5.  SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

Sailing Instructions will be available on Regatta Network, at on-site registration, and at the skipper’s meeting.  Courses to be sailed will be described in the Sailing Instructions.  Any changes to the Sailing Instructions will be made at the Skipper’s Meeting and posted on shore on the GRSA bulletin board.

6.  SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Friday, October 1st:        Gates at GRSA open at 1600 for out-of-town arrivals.

On-site registration from 1600 to 2000.

Saturday, October 2nd:   Gates open at GRSA at 0800

                                                             0900 Registration opens

                                                             1030 Registration closes

                                                             1030 Skipper’s Meeting

1200 Warning signal for first race.  Additional races to follow.

                                                             1730 Social

                                                             1830 Dinner

Sunday, October 3rd:      Gates open at GRSA at 0700

1000 Warning signal for first race.  One or more additional races to follow.  No race will be started after 1300.

1500Social and presentation of trophies.

7.  DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY:

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury, or death sustained in connection with, prior to, during, or after the regatta. By registering, I agree to abide by the RRS and all other rules that govern this event.

10.  DIRECTIONS TO GRSA

The Greater Richmond Sailing Association is located at the intersection of Genito and Woolridge Roads in Chesterfield County, Virginia on Swift Creek Reservoir. 

From the North:  Take I-95 South to Richmond.  Exit at Number 79 for I-195/Powhite Parkway.  Please note this is a dual exit for I-195/Powhite Parkway, and I-64 West.  There are two lanes and you should stay in the left hand lane for the I-195/Powhite Parkway ramp.  Follow I-195 to split for Powhite Parkway (State Route 76), US Route 60/360 and go over the James River onto the Powhite Parkway.  Once over the river there is a toll.  After toll, stay right and continue approximately 5 miles to another toll.  Once through the second toll, continue on past the exit for State Route 288 and you will come to a stoplight.  Turn left onto Charter Colony Parkway.  At the second light, turn right onto Genito Road.  Follow Genito road through to the second light.  Turn left onto Woolridge Road and the entrance to GRSA is a left turn lane 50 yards on the left. 

From the South:  Take I - 95 North to just North of Chester and exit onto State Route 288 North.  Exit from Route 288 for Old Hundred Road.  Follow the exit to the stoplight and turn left onto Charter Colony Parkway and follow instructions above.
