Kate Gomes-Program Director

Hometown: Midlothian, VA

Sailing Stats: Started sailing right here at GRSA when I was seven years old and have been on the water ever since. I sailed through college at Christopher Newport University where I now work as an Athletic Academic Mentor. After college I went on to graduate school at Old Dominion University while also running the sailing programs at the Sailing Center on Norfolk Naval Base. I married a wonderful Naval Aviator which took us to Corpus Christi, TX where I worked for two years starting and running a sailing program at Lake Canyon Yacht Club in Canyon Lake Texas. Reassignment brought us back to Hampton Roads and I now have the privilege of working for GRSA right back where I started!

Hobbies/interests: Cooking, crafting, and being a mom to an very busy little lady.

Kaitlyn Reilly-Instructor

Hometown: Midlothian, VA

College: Christopher Newport University

Sailing Stats: I started sailing right here at GRSA! (Best club ever!) I grew up with the program and some of the other instructors learning in Sunfish, Albacores, and Lasers. This summer camp taught me a lifelong skill that I’ve carried with me for eight years now. Learning how to sail has shaped my life more than I could ever imagine. I’m now a varsity collegiate sailor and through that I’ve gotten to experience cool things like the VOLVO Ocean Race, and learning how to sail on big boats.

Hobbies/interests: Although I spend most of my time on boats, you can find me at Chipotle almost any day of the week. Shark week is the best week out of the year, I think the megalodon is still out there.  Bruce Springsteen is my favorite artist. I love a nice game of trivia.

Matteo Murelle-Instructor

Sailing Stats: My family introduced me to sailing when I was young. I then was a student at Sail Camp for several years. During this time I fell in love with the sport and saved up enough money to buy my own Laser. The past two summers I worked as an assistant instructor and it was a terrific experience.  I look forward to instructing this year.
