The Greater Richmond Sailing Association
is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote sailing in the
Richmond, Virginia area. The organization was founded in 1975 by a group of area
sailors to develop a family oriented sailing club. The club is located on 6
acres fronting the Swift Creek Reservoir in Chesterfield county.
Located on the Swift Creek Reservoir in Midlothian,
VA (a rapidly growing suburb of Richmond), The Greater Richmond Sailing
Association is entering its 30th year of one-design and PHRF handicapped
racing. We feature a full season of racing and social events, with
active Day Sailer and Flying Scot fleets, and a handicap fleet
consisting primarily of Thistles, Lasers, and Hunter 170s.
In 2004, the GRSA hosted the Day Sailer North
American Championships. The week began with a 6-race Junior Championship
event, and fleet weighing and measurement. The main event was held
mid-week with three days of racing, followed by the awards dinner.
We also maintain a club fleet of Albacores and
Sunfish in order to operate a comprehensive Youth Sailing Program and
Summer Sail Camp. Reasonable annual dues provide trailer storage for
dry-sailed dinghies, with four concrete launching ramps, and ample
docking space. Picnic pavilions, playground, and new
bathroom and kitchen facilities make it a great recreational area for
the whole family . While the kitchen facilities allow us to provide more
"refined" dining, we still have our famous, state-of-the-art pig cooker
for the really special events.
